Research Interest

Our work combines a plethora of activities aiming at the convergence of research and education and translating in field for the overall community development. Basically, we work on two major aspects:

  1. Research
    • Development of molecular diagnostics for the detection and monitoring of pathogens, especially focusing on vector borne diseases (VBDs). This is area is of prime importance as there is an urgent need for the generation of rapid IVDs for several public health care related diseases and other agents for prompt developing solutions. We are/have developing/developed several assays based on nanoparticles, paper-based, and solution-based methods for the rapid detection of pathogens and other agents related to health care.
    • Studying the genetics of pathogen-vector/host interactions for elucidating the evolutionary relationship, future outbreaks, and resistance monitoring, particularly, in case of VBDs and sepsis.
    • Genome engineering using zebrafish models. We have initiated developing several transgenic models of zebrafish to mimic disease homology and for toxicological testing.
  2. Education
    • Enhancing Science learning in schools through the development of an integrated approach using inquiry-based learning and zebrafish models. Basically, we conduct scientific internships with school partners and provide technical support and assist the educators with designing an integrated curriculum and guiding through the basic experimental design using zebrafish models. Eventually, the goal is to build teacher scientists and student scientists, who can pave the way to a healthier and passionate society with a broader mindset.
