Research Interest

Malaria is one of the major killer diseases of the developing countries. Malaria is caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium, of which P. falciparum is responsible for the most severe form of malaria and accounts for majority of the malaria related deaths globally. Plasmodium parasites use human as a host to complete the asexual phase of its lifecycle, of which blood-stage infection is responsible for all the clinical symptoms associated with malaria. My lab would be interested to gain a detailed understanding of the molecular processes that are essential for survival of the parasite inside the human erythrocyte. The current focus of the lab is:

  • Elucidate the role of PfHsp40 proteins in protein export.
  • Identify the novel parasite proteins that are exported into distinct compartments of an infected host erythrocyte
