Anti-Ragging

‘Ragging means ‘Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension there of in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student’.

“Ragging in all its forms is totally banned in this institution including in its departments, constituent units, all its premises (academic, residential, sports, kiosks, cafeteria and the like) whether located within the campus or outside and in all means of transportation of students whether public or private. The institution shall take strict action including but not limited to criminal proceeding and / or cancellation of admission against those found guilty of ragging and/ or of abetting ragging and the burden of proof shall be on the perpetrator of alleged ragging and not on the victim. An offence of ragging may be charged either on a written complaint by the affected or on independent finding of the Anti Ragging squad. The institution is bound by the UGC Regulations on curbing the Menace of ragging in Higher Educational Institutions 2009.”

As per the supreme court of India order, May 2007, vide item No. 33, court no. 4, section XIA, Anti-ragging committee and anti- ragging squad have been formed to implement the recommendations made by the Raghavan Committee to tackle with the problem of ragging in the institution. In case the applicant for admission is found to have indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed later that he/ she has been indulged in ragging, admission may be refused or he/ she shall be expelled from the institution. Victims of ragging should immediately approach any faculty/ staff member and seek his intervention. Every single incident of ragging where the victim or his parent/guardian or the Head of institution is not satisfied with the institutional arrangement for action, a first Information report shall be filed without exception by the institutional authorities with the local police authorities.

Punishment for Ragging
Depending on the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti ragging Committee of the institution, those found guilty of ragging shall be liable for any one or more of the following punishment. The decision of the anti ragging committee shall be final and binding.

Hence, it is of paramount importance on the part of the authorities to safeguard these facilities and the students / boarders have got equal responsibility in this aspect also. The excellent infrastructure of KSBT is coupled with elaborate manpower arrangements, in order to address a variety of academic and residential problems.
Anti-Ragging & Students’ Grievance Cell
It has been approved at the highest level to take disciplinary undertakings from each and every students of KSBT who are currently pursuing studies and also who will be admitted in future. This will enable for taking appropriate administrative action in the event of activities that contravene the rules and regulations of the Institute. Failure to furnish the undertakings will result in forfeiture
