Lopamudra Ray

Associate Professor

Lopamudra Ray obtained her PhD in Environmental Biotechnology in 2012 from KIIT University. She continued to work as post doctoral research scientist at School of Biotechnology, KIIT university looking into Characterization of Benthic as well as Littoral Microbial community of Chilika Lake . She has 8 years of post PhD research experience in the filed of Environmental Microbiology. She teaches Recombinant DNA technology, Fundamentals of Biotechnology and Forensic Sciences to BSc LLB students at School of Law and Microbiology to MSc Microbiology and MSc Biotechnology students. She has facilitated practical training for BSc LLB students by establishing a basic biotechnology lab in KIIT Law School premises. Currently her research group at School of Biotechnology, KIIT is working on “Production of industrially important chitosan and chitooligosaccharide from chitinous waste using novel Streptomyces strains. In this they are looking into various aspect by which the chitin waste can be converted biologically to industrially important products which have immense application in medical fields and agricultural fields. Her research group is also interested and working on novel microbial enzyme and bioactive from potential Streptomyces strains. They use classical microbiological as well as modern age technique for characterisation of novel species of Actinomycetes and other microorganisms. Her group is funded by DBT-BioCare, Govt of India and Govt of Ethiopia (Indo-Ethiopian Collaboration) and KIIT Deemed to be University. She has guided 1 PhD scholar successfully and currently 2 PhD scholars (CSIR UGC-NET) are working with her.
