Janeka Gartia
Assistant Professor
Dr. Janeka Gartia is a researcher in the field of Biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (Bio-NMR) spectroscopy, with a specific focus on development and implementation of high-resolution NMR techniques for studying the structure, function, and dynamics of proteins. He received his Master's degree in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2012, and his Ph.D from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in India in 2019. Prior to joining KIIT School of Biotechnology as a faculty member in 2022, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the renowned Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. His current research endeavours are centred on the structural characterization of biomolecules, specifically proteins associated with human diseases. He employs a combination of multi-nuclear and multi-dimensional NMR techniques, as well as other biophysical techniques such as dynamic light scattering, circular dichroism, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization, and isothermal titration calorimetry to gain high-resolution insights into the biological functions of these molecules. Additionally, he has a keen interest in the advancement of new NMR techniques for studying proteins within cells, as well as in the design of Python-based algorithms for the efficient analysis of NMR data. He is actively involved in teaching integrated B.Tech-M.Tech biotechnology students.
