Janeka Gartia
Assistant Professor
Dr. Janeka Gartia is a structural biologist with expertise in biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for characterizing biomolecules at atomic resolution. He earned his Master's degree in chemistry from IIT Delhi and his Ph.D from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Before joining KIIT School of Biotechnology as a faculty member in November, 2022, he was a postdoctoral fellow in cellular structural biology lab at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, for over two years. Gartia’s lab centers its research on metabolomics studies of medicinal plants using NMR spectroscopy--a non-invasive, non-destructive and rigorously quantitative high-throughput technique. The lab’s current research focuses on identification, characterization, and therapeutic evaluation (in silico/in vitro/in vivo) of novel phytomedicinal compounds from Indian medicinal plants. Furthermore, the lab employs qNMR techniques for the space- and time-resolved profiling of these compounds to map their biosynthesis and spatial distribution, alongside developing NMR methodologies and computational tools for metabolomic analysis.
